Following a significant life-upheaval event I started to get extremely anxious about my health and excessively fear the future, with an almost crippling effect on my state of mind. I was worrying about what could lie ahead whilst also looking back and regretting so many of the bad health habits I’d gotten into along the way. All of this whilst suddenly living alone … during a lockdown.
Sundhya was truly wonderful, empathetic and offered unique insight into these experiences. Sundhya gave me tools that helped to relieve me of my anxious thought patterns, but moreover instilled in me a new belief in how I could live a healthier and happier life through optimising my food and diet, but moreover through identifying and connecting with my values and being more conscious in the present moment.
For the first time in my life I feel a stronger sense of purpose, feel empowered to make better decisions, feel more informed and awake to the choices that we make, and reinvigorated by a greater sense of purpose in living more consciously and being aware of each moment.
Not only has my diet and lifestyle been overhauled, but waking up each morning knowing that the decisions I will make are rooted in a healthier and truer reflection of myself has been truly inspiring.
I could not be more grateful for the time and energy that Sundhya has put in to helping me.
My husband is diabetic and about 12 years ago his GP was considering prescribing insulin injections to manage his diabetes.
We were both quite shocked as he was in his early forties at the time. He resolved to do something about this and we were referred to the NHS DESMOND service. We both made some changes.
Looking at wider family members my husband knew the effects of ill managed diabetes could be quite severe and so he was highly motivated to stave off illness for as long as he could.
This is the point at which our journey with Dr Sundhya Raman started. Dr Raman explained the impact each of his lifestyle choices were having on his diabetes. Armed with this info he made efforts to quit smoking (achieved), exercise more (achieved) and follow a whole food plant based diet (80% achieved).
He has reversed macular degeneration, reversed kidney protein leakage, no longer takes statins and has reduced his diabetic medication by a third.
Her encouragement motivated him to make lifestyle changes and seeing test results changes motivated him to make further changes. She was as excited and happy for him as he was for himself. She has been a rock and a motivator at his low points and rejoiced at his achievements. She understands how daily life (work, relationships etc.) can get in the way of determination and suggested tools we can use to recharge and we truly felt we were in this together with her.
We would highly recommend Dr Raman.
Sundhya has been a fantastic support in our quest to improve my health and the health of our family.
What she doesn’t know about the relationship between our health and the food we eat, isn’t worth knowing!
Altering our diet was not something my husband and I could change overnight and she’s been there to guide us with her caring enthusiasm and expertise.
It’s not just knowing what to eat and what to avoid, but understanding why and the effect it has on our health.
We are clearly seeing the benefits, so thank you!
During lockdown, my husband of over forty years died of Covid. The trauma and pain of his death is indescribable. Grief and loss became my constant companions and my life as I knew it ended suddenly and irrevocably.
In the months that followed, I was not inclined to look after my own health, in fact quite the opposite, but eventually it dawned on me that if I did not start taking better care of myself, I was going to suffer chronic ill health and disability. I knew I had to break bad habits and develop new ones and the task seemed too difficult and daunting by myself.
I had seen Dr Sundhya Raman on YouTube and it soon became clear that she had the knowledge, skills, and personal qualities to support me in laying the foundation for a total reset of my health.
Over a period of six months, my grief journey also became a wellness journey. Sundhya has helped me to transform my life and cope with the most painful and difficult of times.
Sundhya’s whole person approach has surpassed my expectations, and, by goal setting and careful planning, she has helped me change my habits and achieve better health as evidenced by my recent blood tests.
I have laughed and cried with Sundhya. Her warmth, kindness and understanding infuses her professional approach but at the same time she kept me focussed on the task and on achieving our agreed outcomes. When I could not do what we had agreed, Sundhya came up with new strategies so that I could overcome the difficulty.
Sundhya is a highly qualified doctor and an expert in wellness. She is a special and lovely person and a joy to be with.
Sundhya will always have a special place in my heart because of her positive and long-lasting impact on my life.
My saviour from Cholesterol.
I first spoke with Sundhya about my cholesterol and BP as these were high. My own father passed away from heart problems when he was quite young. I am only in my late 30s, I have my own family, and I do not want this to happen to me.
I told her that all the doctors I have seen told me that I have genetic cholesterol. My Serum Cholesterol was 6.33.
We had weekly sessions where we went through my diet, exercise, sleep and stress levels. The biggest changes we made were to my diet, but all the others were also tackled whenever they were an issue.
We made shifts each week with a plan tailored around what I had managed to do and either taking some things forward or finding solutions for things I struggled to make progress with.
From the first month I noticed changes in my body weight. I felt more energetic and active and had fewer bowel issues. At the time I had very bad neck ache which meant I could not do much exercise.
I repeated my blood tests in Dec 2021 (after 4 months) and my cholesterol had gone down to 4.45 which is normal. This result was amazing and surprised me, especially as I had been on holiday and not been as good with my food as usual.
I would recommend Sundhya to anyone who is having issues with their cholesterol. I always thought mine was genetic because all of my family had high cholesterol and I didn’t think anything could be done. Sundhya can help reverse this for anyone.
She has been a guide and mentor for me in helping me change my lifestyle.
I contacted Sundhya as was experiencing recurring bouts of Gout.
Gout that was so incredibly painful, draining and embarrasing that it was negatively impacting my quality of life.
I wasn't excessively eating red meat, devouring cheese nor swigging port and needed to find out why this was happening and see what could be done.
Initially, my GP put me on a prescription of pills, which stabilised the situation, and the intention was to keep me on these for life. I felt this was just a treatment and not a cure and it wasn't the way I wanted to live my life going forward, although was advised this was the best course of treatment.
I felt was sure there must be another way and Sundhya proved this.
After a detailed consultation, Sundhya explained in very simple terms what had happened and understood the pain I was experiencing. She explained it was a form of inflammatory arthritis, triggered by high blood levels of uric acid, crystalising in the body's joints, causing swelling and pain anywhere from fingers to toes.
I attended many sessions with Sundhya over 9 months where she helped put a plan in place for educating me on the inflammation element, monitoring and tweaking my food and life style choices.
Sundhya was very kind, non judgemental and empathetic. I'm on a far better road than I was, the intense flare ups have ceased (big thanks!) and I am much happier. I do eat a far greater plant based diet than previous but am not 100% Vegan.
I continue to check in with her and would highly recommend. A very professional service
